This week has been pretty amazing. First, Gabe and I had a wonderful Valentine's weekend at Biltmore Estates. While we were there it snowed, which was just magical. Though we've only been trying to conceive for a month, I started to suspect pregnancy before we left for our trip. I took a test Friday, but it was negative. Still, I passed on the champagne at our Valentine's dinner, and opted for tea instead of coffee at our romantic Biltmore Inn breakfast. After another week of distaste for coffee, tenderness, and being late, I decided to retest on Wednesday, February 18th. As the test was developing I could see a whole lot of blue out of the corner of my eye, yet I was still totally shocked to see a + sign! Wow! Gabe and I both thought it would take a few months to get pregnant, so we were a little surprised that it happened so quickly. At the same time, we're ecstatic with joy! I retested to confirm on Thursday and it's official, Baby H is on board :-)
At this point, we've only shared the news with our parents, siblings, and a couple of friends who are also expecting. We are planning to tell everyone about Baby H after my first ultrasound, some time in the middle of March. Until then, Gabe and I are enjoying our little secret.
I didn't think it was possible to fall more in love with Gabe, and our life together, but I already have. He's just so thoughtful, caring, and supportive. One of the highlights of my week was Gabe kissing my belly, and feeling the love he already has for our little one. This week I started pinning nursery ideas and baby items on Pinterest, which is fun and exciting. Gabe brought me home a copy of What to Expect When You're Expecting, and I've been avidly reading my way through it. I also installed the Nurture app on my phone, so I'm already getting insightful updates on our baby's progress each day. It's amazing to read about all the changes our bean is going through. Gabe and I love talking about Baby H's developments each day. I'm so glad that we're on this incredible adventure together!
How far along? 5 weeks
Maternity clothes? Leggings, my jeans are already snug!
Stretch marks? No
Sleep: I've been waking up once in the middle of the night, otherwise it's been smooth sailing so far.
Best moment this week: Telling Gabe on Wednesday morning. When I saw the test result I exclaimed so loudly it woke him up! Once I stopped shaking with excitement, I went into our room and said, "Good morning, Daddy!" We are so excited about little Baby H : )
Miss Anything? I somewhat miss my habitual 4 cups of coffee a day. Funnily enough, I stopped craving coffee about a week before we found out. I actually went an entire week without coffee, which was one of the first things that clued me in to Baby H's presence. Seriously, if I don't want coffee, something is up! I'm having about 1/2 a cup a day now and that's enough for me.
Movement: None
Food cravings: Pretty much anything from Sweet Theory. Can you build a Savannah store already?
Anything making you queasy or sick: Beef
Gender: Baby H will keep us guessing for a while, but his or her gender has already been decided by genetics!
Labor Signs: No
Symptoms: This week has been pretty easy. I am experiencing bloating, intermittent cramps (lessened from last week), fatigue, and thirst, thirst, thirst. Would it be tacky to drink water out of a big gulp cup?
Belly Button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? On
Happy or Moody most of the time: We are so excited about Baby H. It makes us so happy to talk about our little bean and all the preparations for his or her arrival.
Looking forward to: My first Dr. appointment in a few weeks. It will be nice to meet our doctor and get our official due date. Gabe and I are also looking forward to sharing the news with our family and friends. So far we've told our parents and a couple friends who are also preggo. We feel incredibly lucky to have such supportive friends and family. It is also really neat to have two friends who are expecting at roughly the same time. Even though I have been researching pregnancy and reading What to Expect When You're Expecting, it is so nice to be able to talk to a friend about all the things my body and our little baby are going through. That being said, I'm really hoping to get to see our baby's heartbeat at my first ultrasound!
